My Escher project!

This took me ridiculous amounts of time to do - we had something like a month to do it, and I was finishing it (still!) in class before handing it in. Most of that last bit was an attempt to even out the ink job (which, contrary to what you see here, is a little uneven, since I was brushing it on and trying not to destroy the rest of it... contrast adjustment is a wonderful thing ^_^)

This is also like the third version of a morph I was working on. I remember early drafts of this were a frog turning into a shooting star, and a Popsicle turning into a hypodermic needle.

Anyway.

Yes, this is all done by hand. I had one outline of each "level" of morph for both the rose and the teddy bear (done on tracing paper or some cardstock or something), which I retraced over every repeat at that "level" of detail, with the aide of a light box. The final double pyramid shape was then retraced (again) onto the final piece of bristol. And then the inking process began.

I love this piece, because I love M.C. Escher, and also because of the incredible amount of time which was put into it. The time I spent on this piece (the finished size, by the way, is 11" x 14") is without doubt the longest I've ever spent on any piece of artwork. Looking at it, I can remember how anal I was forcing myself to be, what with the attention to detail and all that (example: each of the teddy bear eyes was traced through a circle guide, which made it terribly painstaking to avoid smearing). I'm just incredibly proud of how it came out. :,3

And on top of that, it recieved full marks, and was in the showcase for the better part of 4 months, before they finally put up new art and I got this back.

Please don't use this for anything without telling me.

No matter what route you end up taking, remember to protect the people who are precious to you... the ones who you appreciate the very most, and trust, and love with all of your heart.
Thank you so much! Want to know what the kicker is? I'm not even in the art department. ;)
